Springing the Debt Trap -- for San Franciscans and Californians

Thursday, December 17, 2009 - 11:30am

Sold to consumers as short-term relief during a cash crunch, pay day loans carry interest rates of over 400 percent and catch working people with a steady source of income in a long-term debt trap.

On December 17th at 11:30am, San Francisco City leaders, in partnership with local credit unions, helped relieve this burden on hardworking San Franciscans by launching PayDayPlus SF, a low cost emergency loan available to City residents at 13 locations.

CA EVENT: Green Assets

Tuesday, November 18, 2008 - 12:00pm
Volatile energy costs are a concern for every California family-particularly the millions of households for whom every extra dollar spent on energy comes at the expense of other necessities and the ability to save. For these families, securing affordable energy would result in savings that could be used for short- or long-term investments. In a cruel twist, the people most in need of relief from high energy costs are those least able to afford the longer-term investments that would deliver it.
