California Asset Building Program

Over two million Californians have medical debt, making it difficult to access needed health care or affordable credit. In Sept, we held events in LA, Oakland, and Fresno to discuss ways to relieve the burden of medical debt and create savings opportunities.

The Asset Building Program recently brought together key city administrators and national officials to discuss the proliferation of Bank On programs, which help low-income individuals gain access to basic financial services.

The launch of this new alternative to payday loans was followed by New America's community discussion in December in San Francisco.
